Inclement Weather

These are the procedures we will follow if we have to close the school due to adverse weather.

⚠️ Emergency School Closure Procedure

In the rare event that Wren Spinney must close, the following steps will be taken to inform families:

  1. Text Message Notification
    A message will be sent via our school text system.
    👉 Please ensure your contact details are up-to-date with the school office.

  2. Class Dojo Update
    A closure notice will be posted in the School Story section of Class Dojo.

  3. Website Announcement
    This website will be updated to confirm that the school is closed.

  4. Social Media
    A message will be posted to our social media platforms to confirm that the school is closed.

School Closure Decisions:

Closing the school is never a decision we take lightly. Any closure is agreed in consultation with the Chair of Governors and only happens after careful consideration and a full risk assessment.

We understand that closing the school can cause disruption for families. However, our priority is the health and safety of pupils and staff—not just while in school, but also when travelling to and from school. We take into account factors such as:

  • Safe access to the school site, including the car park and entrances
  • Weather and travel conditions for pupils and staff
  • Ensuring enough staff can safely get to school to support pupils

Many of our staff travel long distances, and in severe conditions, journeys can become dangerous or even impossible. If we cannot guarantee safe travel and adequate staffing, we may have no choice but to close.

Please be assured that the school will only close as a last resort, and never without thorough consideration of all risks.
